The ACT for NIH Foundation hosted their Annual Celebration on Wednesday, March 4th in the Library of Congress. Bipartisan congressional leaders gathered in a clear show of support for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). FABBS was honored to be invited to join the celebratory evening.
ACT for NIH is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing life-saving biomedical research by educating policymakers and the public about the importance of health research undertaken by NIH. Kate Klimczak recently stepped in as the Executive Director, coming from the NIH Office of Legislative Policy and Analysis.
Jay Bhattacharya, PhD, Director of NIH, spoke at the event, commenting on the agency’s accomplishments throughout the year and goals moving forward. Bhattacharya also recognized his colleagues in the audience, notably among them John Ngai, PhD, Director of NIH’s Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative; Michael Chiang, MD, Director of the National Eye Institute (NEI); and George Koob, PhD, Director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
Bipartisan bicameral congressional leaders attended the event, including Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Representatives Robert Aderholt (R-AL), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Mark Pocan (D-WI), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL).
