DHS Includes FABBS Nominated Disciplines

On July 12, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that Developmental and Adolescent Psychology is one of eight new programs being added to the DHS science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) designated degree programs list. FABBS nominated this code to be added to the program list last year.  DHS uses this list to determine if international students are eligible for an additional two years of “STEM OPT” employment in the US after graduation.

The Federal Register notice also included instructions for how interested parties, including members of the public, can nominate CIP codes for potential inclusion on or removal from the STEM list.

Nominations may be submitted by email to the SEVP Response Center at SEVP@ice.dhs.gov, with the subject line “Attention: STEM CIP Code Nomination.”
