FABBS is delighted to announce four incoming Board members: Jeff Zacks will serve as President-Elect, Adriana Galván will serve as Vice President-Elect, Bud Fennema will serve as Treasurer, and Edith Chen will serve as a Member-at-Large. They will begin their term in January 2022.

Jeffrey M. Zacks, PhD
President-Elect
Dr. Zacks previously served as a Member-at-Large on the FABBS board from 2017 to 2020. He is Professor and Associate Chair of Psychological & Brain Sciences, and Professor of Radiology, at Washington University in Saint Louis.
He received his bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from Yale University and his PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Stanford University in 1999. His research has been funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Office of Naval Research, and the James S. McDonnell Foundation. He has served as Associate Editor of the journals Cognition, Cognitive Research: Principles & Implications, and Collabra, and as Chair of the governing board of the Psychonomic Society, the leading association of experimental psychologists. He is the recipient of scientific awards from the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Foundation, and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Psychological Science, the Midwest Psychological Association, and the Society of Experimental Psychologists. Zacks is the author of two books, Flicker: Your Brain on Movies and Event Cognition (with G.A. Radvansky), and co-editor of Understanding Events (with Thomas F. Shipley) and Representations in Mind and World: Essays Inspired by Barbara Tversky (with Holly A. Taylor). He has published more than 100 journal articles and also has written for Salon, Aeon, and The New York Times.
Adriana Galván, PhD
Vice President-Elect

Adriana Galván is a Professor of Psychology and Dean of Undergraduate Education at UCLA. She is also the Director of the Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory and Co-Executive Director of the Center for the Developing Adolescent at UCLA. The overall goal of her laboratory is to understand adolescent behavior by using neuroimaging methods to study the changing adolescent brain. Specifically, she examines the role of stress, sleep habits, puberty, and social relationships on adolescent risk-taking and decision making. Her work has been disseminated broadly in academic journals generously funded by the National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, William T. Grant Foundation, The Jacobs Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Law and Neuroscience. Her research has been featured in several media outlets, in a TEDx talk on the adolescent brain and cited in U.S. Supreme Court cases regarding juvenile justice (Graham v. Florida, 2010; Miller v. Alabama, 2012). Dr. Galván received her B.A in Neuroscience from Barnard College, Columbia University (2001) and her Ph.D. from Cornell Medical School (2006). She conducted her postdoctoral research fellowship at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Behavior. She is the recipient of the American Psychological Association (APA) Boyd McCandless Young Scholar Award, the Jacobs Foundation Young Scholar Award, a Network Scholar Award of The MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Law and Neuroscience, the William T. Grant Foundation Scholar Award, the APA Early Career Award, and the Troland Award from the National Academy of Science. In 2018 she was a Fulbright Scholar in Barcelona, Spain and in 2019 was awarded a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

Bud Fennema, PhD
Treasurer
Bud Fennema is the Arthur Andersen Professor at Florida State University where he has taught since 1993. He currently teaches managerial accounting, MBA accounting, and doctoral seminars in behavioral accounting research. His research is in the area of judgment and decision making. He is a Certified Public Accountant (licensed in Florida), a Certified Management Accountant, and he served on the Florida Board of Accountancy from 2011 to 2020. Prior to pursuing an academic career, he worked in private companies and public accounting with Arthur Andersen & Co. He received a B.S. from Indiana University, an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

Edith Chen, PhD
Member-at-Large
Chen is co-director of the Foundations of Health Research Center at Northwestern University. Dr. Chen received a B.A. in history of science from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She completed a clinical internship at Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in health psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Chen was an Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis from 2000-2003. From 2003-2012, she was a professor in the Psychology department at the University of British Columbia and the Canada Research Chair in Health and Society. In 2012, Dr. Chen moved to Northwestern University, where she is now the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor of Psychology and a Faculty Fellow at the Institute for Policy Research. Her research focuses on understanding the psychosocial and biological contributors to socioeconomic disparities in health outcomes in children.
