Final Rule Issued on Human Research Protections

At long last, it happened! Just before the change in Administrations, the new rule governing research with human participants was released. In July 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and White House Office of Science and Technology Policy proposed the most extensive changes to the regulations on human research protections in decades.

Scientists attending the FABBS Council of Representatives Annual Meeting were invited to participate in a meeting with the new National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Director, Dr. Joshua Gordon. National Institute on Aging Advancing New Research Initiatives on Alzheimer’s

At the recent National Advisory Council on Aging meeting, 26 new concept proposals focused on Alzheimer’s and related dementia’s were approved by Council. According to NIA Director Richard Hodes, the concept proposals will be developed into a “record number” of new Funding Opportunity Announcements in the next few months. NIA has benefited from increased federal funding for Alzheimer’s research over the last few years and is expected to receive additional increases this fiscal year,
