About the FABBS Awards

An important part of the FABBS mission is recognizing the contributions of leaders in the sciences of mind, brain, and behavior. Our awards programs honor outstanding scientists at all stages in their careers.

Early Career Impact Awards

The Early Career Impact Awards recognize scientists who are in the early stages of their professional careers and have already shown promise as a leading researcher. The early career scientists’ academic contributions are highlighted on the FABBS website, and FABBS translates their research for a broad public audience by preparing general interest articles for policy makers and the public.

In selecting possible honorees, FABBS draws upon the expertise of its member scientific societies to identify early career candidates who have made significant contributions to their areas of science.

IDEA Awards

The FABBS Award for Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility – or IDEA Award – recognizes and honors distinguished research, professional practice, and activities (such as mentorship), that advance these principles in the behavioral and brain sciences. Two award categories are available: senior scholars (for lifetime achievement) and early to mid-career scholars (under 15 years post-PhD).

FABBS welcomes all nominations, including self-nominations, and especially encourages nominations of scientists from minoritized communities and from disciplines and subject matters that have been traditionally under-represented in behavioral and brain sciences.

FABBS offers two student awards: the Doctoral Dissertation Research Excellence Awards and the Undergraduate Research Excellence Awards. The award is open to those currently enrolled and those who have graduated in the year prior to the award submission deadline. The opportunity to nominate students for these awards is offered to our Departmental and Division Affiliates.

The “In Honor Of…” Program

The “In Honor Of” program highlighted eminent, senior scientists who have made a lasting impact, through decades of research, to our understanding of humans – how they think, feel, and act. These honorees were nominated by their peers and supported by a donation campaign. This is a wonderful way to pay tribute to someone who has had a lasting impact on our sciences.

See the gallery of IHO honorees and visit each scientist’s page to make a donation in their name.
